Excellence is not a thing that is achieved overnight. It is the cumulative effort taken by an entire team every day and every night that makes an institution great and excellent. And then to be among one of the trusted brands is a whole different story.
Featuring this story on their cover is The Business Fame. Presenting the extraordinary of Ruby Hall Clinic for The Most Prominent Healthcare Solution Providers in 2022.
Years of Excellence-
“Sir Richard Branson rightly said, “There is no greater thing you can do with your life and your work than follow your passions — in a way that serves the world and you.” I believe this sentence can aptly describe my journey at Ruby Hall Clinic and my contribution thus far.”
As the Chief Operating Officer of the two most successful ventures of Ruby Hall Clinic (Sassoon Road and Wanowrie), Dr. Manisha is the first woman in the hospital’s 60-year-old history to shatter glass ceilings and enter the C-suite. While a majority of her tasks involve running institutions where patients lives hang in the balance, she is also responsible for transforming the financial trajectory of the organisation.
Having joined the hospital more than two decades ago as an anaesthetist, Dr. Manisha rose up the ranks and held various positions. Her first experience in healthcare leadership came when she became the head of the Department of Anaesthesiology at this very institute and hasn’t looked back since then. In addition to being the COO and practicing anaesthetist, Dr. Manisha can also be seen heading the Department of Robotic Surgery, the Breast Clinic and the Mother and Child Clinic at the hospital.

Ruby’s Arsenal of Services-
At its very heart, Ruby Hall Clinic has a longstanding history of offering quality care to everyone who comes through its doors. As an 850-bedded multidisciplinary institute with three hospitals in Pune, the institute has constantly moved towards a true culture of achieving excellence in hospital care. Their nine NABH and NABL quality accreditations and certifications in medicine as well as their cGreen OT certifications are proof of this very notion.
“Our clinical services are among the world’s best, and we are known for leadership in patient safety, emergency and virtually every aspect of specialised care.”
However, it’s not just about having the best clinicians and clinical results. For the team it’s about being known for the best technology and offering procedures and therapies that are in line with the community’s evolving healthcare demands. Take for instance the high-end equipment they have procured in the form of robotic surgery, imaging and cancer care technology along with their pioneering five-star service Signature Suites. Ruby Hall Clinic is nationally applauded for its efforts concerning organ donation and also have a cutting-edge cancer care facility and an all-women managed breast care clinic among many other initiatives.
The Road Ahead-
“I believe that the healthcare industry is at its most exciting crux the world has ever seen.”
COVID-19 has shown the world the importance of connected healthcare supported by a strong digital ecosystem. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are slowly but surely transforming the healthcare system from being reactive to proactive. To add to this, the meta verse and augmented reality are set to change the way healthcare impacts patients.
Among other things, at Ruby Hall Clinic, they have begun to expedite their expansion strategy by focusing on the rapidly growing demand for innovative and comprehensive solutions to support the digital transformation of the healthcare ecosystem.
It’s important to know how technology affects a patient’s relationship with his or her providers to ensure that relationship is strong.
“I believe healthcare can be transformed by technology.”
Leveraging technology to enhance the comfort of doctors and fortifying patient care is of utmost importance and this is precisely why Dr. Manisha and the entire team have always encouraged the application of it across the sector and at the hospital.
Strengthening the commitment to provide the highest standards in patient care along with world class equipment, Ruby Hall Clinic has already incorporated a new EMR system, a successful Laboratory online appointment system and payment gateway, actively use robotics in surgeries, invested in world-class advanced equipment such as the Varian Ethos for cancer care, a hybrid Cath lab, virtual clinics and a neuro navigation system amongst others. The team is confident that the uncompromising results of these new technologies will be beneficial to both doctors and patients in the long run.
“Ultimately, we’re on the path to achieving our goal: to create a digitally enabled healthcare ecosystem where we actively collaborate across the continuum of care to improve each patient’s health outcomes.”
Over the last few years, Ruby Hall as an organisation has gained a deeper understanding of what it will take to thrive going forward. While their strategic plan is based on what they have learned and points them toward the future, it is shaped by a vision that has driven the institution for more than half a century – to grow and challenge conventions with their pioneering spirit and forward-thinking leadership while providing exceptional patient care.
Taking this thread forward, the institute’s mission is to be a healthcare destination where high-end technology enabled AI solutions and medical expertise blend with compassionate and personalised care to meet the health needs of all the patients.
Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, and the Driving Force to be the Best!
“When you’re in a high-pressure environment such as the one I work in, you need a family who will support you, a family who will separate your success at work from your worth as a person. And they have been my backbone throughout this journey. Getting back home to my husband and daughter every single day is what keeps me going. Not only do they help me unwind, but also motivate me to be the best version of myself. Above all, my passion and love for my work has inspired me to move mountains.
In addition to this, our CEO, Mr. Bomi Bhote’s unwavering trust in me has helped me tide over the most complex situations. He has encouraged me to hone my skills, take a stand when it matters the most and most importantly, to believe in my potential. For this, I will forever be indebted to him and going forward, it’s something I hope to share with the next generation of women leaders.”
