Following is an Interview between The Business Fame Magazine and Jennifer Desloges, shares her journey and contribution through Jade Clinics.
Q. Give a detailed description of the Founder/CEO/Management’s contribution over the company and the industry.?
In 1983, at the age of 19 I gave birth to my first child. I believe this was the beginning of my leadership journey. In my eyes raising children and running a business or being a leader are one in the same. A lot the responsibilities, roles and obligations can be carried over through each profession.
Being a mother at such a young age helped progress my life cycle and thrusted into owning my own business at 27 years old. The business didn’t fall into my lap or get handed to me but rather I had to seek it out because of a condition that started to develop throughout my pregnancies. Polycystic Ovaries is a condition in which women can develop male type hair growth on their faces and bodies. I was ashamed of the hair and felt unaccepted by society until I found electrolysis.
For the first few years of my career as an electrologist, I just worked 1-on-1 with clients before I opened a government-approved vocational electrolysis school in 1996. From recruiting, to hiring, to teaching, passing/failing a lot more went into my day-to-day routine then just greeting, working on and taking payments from a client. Now I was in command of a group and training put me in this position to lead, developing skills and mindsets. At this point, I really learned to lead by example.
Just as the transition to teaching electrolysis was a big jump so was the transition to franchising in 2010. I was now selling individuals on what I created for myself, was a viable option for them to financial support their lives. At this point, I wasn’t just teaching them how to do electrolysis, I was teaching them how to sustain a business.
Throughout the years, I’ve spent numerous hours reading and listening to audiobooks related to business, leadership, and marketing to gain insights from those before me. I am also a member of a Business Networking International chapter in Richmond, the connections I have made have been another great resource for my business. Undoubtedly the greatest source has been learning from our mistakes and moving forward.
Being a leader is without a doubt my most challenging area of business because I am a perfectionist, and this role is always challenging and developing.
Q. Could you please share your noted milestones, accomplishments throughout your journey so far along with company highlights and achievements under your leadership.
Jennifer Desloges wants to live in a world where we all feel good in our own skin. Jennifer is the Founder and CEO of Jade Clinics. She has been a Professional Electrologist since 1989. She began teaching Electrolysis is 1996. As the expert in her field, she has educated the public about unwanted hair on television, print media, speaking engagements, internet, social media, blogs and podcasts.
Last year, she was nominated for multiple awards for her business accument both as best business and best franchise. Her business has a life of it’s own, fueled by her passion to end the torment of unwanted hair. Recently, Jennifer has expanded her driving force into new services, like permanent fat reduction and youth rejuvenation.
Q. Please tell us about the Franchise model you follow and the services you provide that makes the brand unique in the mid of cut throat competition.
Jade Clinics began franchising because we noticed a gap in the hair removal industry and desire and need of our clients for the services we provided. We work very closely with our franchisees through the 12-week training program to clinic location selection and build out and everything in between. We want our franchisees to know that we have their back in any circumstance that might come their way.
Unlike our competitors in the beauty industry, no one is doing anything similar to Jade Clinics and their Jade method of permanent hair removal.
Q. Please share the most memorable and remarkable moment of your life.
I am immensely proud that Jade Clinics has developed into a strong family owned and operated business. I started this journey into electrolysis over 30 years ago as a one-woman enterprise but today both of my children (Daughter Janine and Son Marc) have found their places in the business and it wouldn’t be where it is today without them.
Q. Where do you see yourself and the company in future? Or, what is your goal to mark the uniqueness in future?
Within the next 5 years I want to see the company expand to have a location in each major city in Canada. At this point, my children will take over all managerial tasks that current fall on my shoulders and I can start my retirement by travelling the world!
Q. Advice for the entrepreneur who is trying to embark in the franchise field.
Make sure you are very confident in your brand and it has the scalability and popularity needed to expand. Throughout your journey, I guarantee you will be met by many challenges but the key is to never give up, be tenacious for your brand because if aren’t no one will be.
Q. What is the one thing that is acting as your motivational tool? Or, who is your role model and how the person inspires and motivates you?
My motivational tool is and will forever be that person that is at home upset with their body because of a hair problem that they feel is overwhelming. I was this person and I was lucky to find the solution. I will be pushing for the rest of my life to get Jade Clinics in front of the people who desperately need it.
