Following is an interview between The Business Fame Magazine and Kristin Revere co-owner and founder of Gold Coast Doulas, she is a Certified Transformational Birth Coach through Birth Coach Method. She completed seven weeks of training and all of the certification requirements. Kristin is also a Certified Elite Birth and Postpartum Doula.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Q. Brief us about the CEO/Founder of the company.
My name is Kristin Revere. I am the co-owner and founder of Gold Coast Doulas. Kristin Revere is a woman who has always had a passion for supporting other women, both personally and professionally. In college, Kristin served on the Executive Committee of her sorority and organized events on campus related to breast cancer and other women’s issues. She later facilitated nonpartisan political trainings for female candidates and volunteered for many nonprofits focused on women’s issues. Kristin firmly believes in the power that lies within a woman and has spent her life drawing it out of the women she surrounds herself with.
After the birth of her daughter in 2011, a new passion awoke within her. Kristin began reading and studying birth from all perspectives, philosophies and medical approaches. She joined organizations like the Healthy Kent Breastfeeding Coalition and used her event coordinating skills to build and promote the organization and create community awareness.
Q. Being a successful Business leader, what difficulties and challenges do you face? What keeps you motivated?
Keeping our business open during COVID was challenging. My kids had virtual school the majority of the year. It was difficult to grow the company when we had so many hurdles to jump. We received some grants to help with overhead as we transitioned from working from our office to our homes. We are happy to be back in our office now, although our classes are still virtual. We launched The Becoming A Mother course as our pivot to support pregnant individuals who needed more resources and emotional support during COVID. It was risky and expensive, but worth it.
Q. Could you please share your noted milestones, accomplishments throughout your journey so far along with company highlights and achievements under your leadership.
The biggest accomplishment was becoming a Certified B Corporation in 2019. We are the first doulas in the nation to achieve this designation. It was a difficult process and we are proud to mix profit and purpose.
Q. Please tell us about the business model you follow and the services you provide that makes the brand unique in the mid of cut throat competition.
We follow the agency model and have a team of subcontracted doulas who serve our clients. We are a one-stop shop for everything a family needs from conception through the first year. We offer the following services: Becoming A Mother online course, childbirth classes, birth doulas, virtual birth coaching, day and overnight postpartum doulas, lactation support, sleep consultations, and more. We also offer a podcast called Ask the Doulas with Gold Coast doulas that we launched in 2017. We pride ourselves on offering judgment-free support to our clients.
Q. Please share the most memorable and remarkable moment of your life.
I entered an essay contest for a trip to Greece in 2019 and was selected as the winner of the She Succeeds conference through Shefari. I made lifelong friends and learned so many tools to grow my business. Traveling to Greece was also a lifelong dream of mine.
Q. Where do you see yourself and the company in future? Or, what is your goal to mark the uniqueness in future?
I see Gold Coast Doulas becoming a national leader in our field. We have had some success in the getting doulas covered under corporate insurance and plan to continue this work in the next year. We were featured in the Washington Post as a result of our work in this space. https://www.thelily.com/some-big-companies-are-starting-to-cover-the-cost-of-doulas-will-others-follow/.
Q. What is the one thing that is acting as your motivational tool? Or, who is your role model and how the person inspires and motivates you?
My main motivator is my business partner Alyssa Veneklase. We have different strengths and personalities and balance each other out perfectly. We meet frequently to set goals and keep each other focused on our goals.
