Our mood, productivity, energy levels, and attitude are all influenced by our surroundings. It’s not only about dazzling your guests and surrounding yourself with attractive things when it comes to creating a beautiful room to call home. It’s all about establishing an environment that makes you feel calm, at ease, organized, and at peace. A competent interior designer may make a significant difference in your quality of life.
Susan Semmelmann took a leap of faith in March 2019 and pursued her longstanding passion of becoming an interior designer. She had no formal training in interior design but felt compelled to pursue her passion and founded her own company, Susan Semmelmann Interiors.
Susan is now a well-known and creative designer with a staff of seventeen people and a 10,000-square-foot facility where she creates her own original, genuine, and one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories. Each piece is made using hand-selected, imported materials and textiles, resulting in patterns and designs that have never been seen before in the interior design market. She is continuously pushing the boundaries in her work in order to provide one-of-a-kind items to her clients, and each piece she creates is produced with love and comes entirely from the heart, since she thinks beauty is perceived through the eyes of the heart.
Susan had no notion of what her future held and had no concept of how to develop a brand less than three years ago, but she went for it nonetheless. Every move she made was taken with complete trust in the road she believed had been laid out for her in life, and it has only led her to success, pleasure, and contentment.
Susan Semmelmann Interiors
Her design business, Susan Semmelmann Interiors, explains the ‘custom’ in custom-made. Susan brought to the table 23 years of design and construction knowledge. The firm’s construction detailing choices include floor-to-ceiling feature walls, fireplace surrounds, ceiling elements, cabinets, tile design, and integrated lighting, to name a few. They also offer a bespoke drapery, bedding, and upholstered furniture line manufactured in-house from luxury fabrics acquired and purchased directly from mills. Custom beds, seats, ottomans, mirrors, and headboards are also available.
As a consequence of networking, word-of-mouth, and recognition from colleagues and contemporaries, the firm has become the talk of the town. According to industry experts, the firm is viewed as a turn-key design business capable of guiding customers through the whole building process. From soup to nuts, everything is covered. It has hundreds of high-quality vendor lines, including art, décor, and furniture, as well as a wide range of bespoke consulting and design choices. The firm focuses on broadening product access and availability to satisfy the demands of its clients, including developing and producing high-end furniture, to handle any supply-chain difficulties.
Susan is also involved with a Wish with Wings, a non-profit located in Fort Worth. This organization has given wishes to Texas children with life-threatening medical illnesses for the past 35 years. Susan just presented them with a totally customized office lobby remodel that she made with her own resources.
Inspiration behind Becoming an Interior Expert
Susan’s family moved around a lot when she was a kid, and every time they did, she would rearrange her room in a new and unique fashion, using just what she had. She would even meticulously arrange her stuffed animals and dolls to make the most pleasing display. As a child, her father warned her, “You’ll never get far in life if you don’t have a work ethic,” As a little child, he instilled in her the “fingers in the soil” mindset. She had no idea that she was giving herself the right ingredients to grow up to be the renowned interior designer she is today.
Susan had a house construction company with her husband for 12 years before starting her interior design firm. During this time, as they were building homes, their clients began to ask her to assist them with selecting countertops, tiles, paint, and other finishes, and this eventually led to her pursuing design as a career. After that, she worked for 18 years in the retail industry with a partner.
Susan’s primary goal when she first started out was to do what she enjoyed and to give back. Give them her time, her resources, her abilities, and her creativity, and give them an interior design experience they’ve never had before. Her passion for what she does and her desire to help others is what has led her to establish the company she does today, and her slogan is “The spirit of life is in the details.”
Innovation is the Key
Susan has witnessed what happens when companies fail to innovate. They may have been industry leaders decades ago, but their refusal to adapt to changes in customer behavior and technological advancements may have left them obsolete, she says. In order to stand out in a competitive market, effective company executives must be creative in order to keep up with changing demand and stay relevant. Susan and her team are working to create something spectacular in Fort Worth, fueled by this desire. It all started with a cautious commitment to take on 2,500 square feet of retail space and has now developed into a 10,000 square foot company on Vickery Boulevard with aspirations for an internet presence and off-site storage to house items and merchandise. “The Vickery location will house the firm’s office as well as Fort Worth Drapery and Fort Worth Design Studio,” she adds. It focuses on making these materials accessible to the general public and gives other designers more alternatives to offer their clients. Susan’s ultimate objective is to make each client’s experience unique and to make their dream come true.
Clients, according to Susan, entrust the business with their heartfelt desires for their houses. Relationships with clients should be seen as partnerships, with all sides involved in finding the best solution. The greatest approach to deepening these ties is to include customer feedback into product creation. She claims that when people start working together on the same page, they may produce something that is not only stunningly beautiful but also emotionally rewarding.
Committed to Excellence
Susan had no clients when she started out, but she had her first client in thirty days, eleven clients in three months, and forty-five clients in her first year. It’s not by chance that she currently has seventy clients on long-term contracts.
Susan has created a corporate culture based on giving and building relationships. She thinks that all connections are important, including those with vendors, subcontractors, workers, and clients. She wants everyone who goes through the doors of her offices to feel the presence of what they are capable of providing with their hearts in what they do. She attributes a lot of her success to being able to put together a team of specialists in the industry and design state-of-the-art items that aren’t available anyplace else. Each piece she makes exudes genuineness, and it is apparent that she and her staff genuinely enjoy what they do.
Susan wants to encourage young people to pursue their ambitions, saying, “Follow what you believe in your heart, that God has given you a skill to accomplish, and go do it, because when you do what you love to do, it’s not work.” All of this was done despite having no formal training in interior design and entirely on the basis of a decision based only on confidence and belief in herself and her abilities.
“It’s never too late to follow your dreams.”
